POOL START--UP KIIT GUIIDELIINES -

Open your pool in 4 easy steps and get your family’s swim season off to a great start!

1. Remove and clean pool cover. Remove any water and debris from the pool cover using a siphon or submersible pump. Remove and empty the anchoring water bags. Remove the cover and clean it with Nava’s Tile & Vinyl Cleaner. After cleaning the cover, dry both sides and sprinkle with talcum powder or Nava’s Alkalinity Up. This helps to prevent mold and mildew while cover is stored in a cool, dry place over the summer.
2. Raise water level and inspect pool equipment. Increase water level to the middle of skimmer opening. Check filter, pump, and heater for winter damage and replace all drain plugs.
3. Test and balance the water. Balanced pool water helps ensure that your family swims safely and that your pool and equipment are protected from corrosion and scaling. Pool water must also be “sanitized” so that it is free of harmful organisms and algae. Start by testing and adjusting for proper chlorine, pH, and total alkalinity levels with your test strips or a test kit with fresh reagents. Proper chlorine level is between 1.0 and 3.0 ppm (parts per million), proper pH level is 7.2 to 7.6, and proper total alkalinity levels are 125 to 175 ppm for vinyl-lined, fiberglass and painted pools (100 to 150 ppm for gunite pools).
4. Add Nava’s Pool Start-Up Kit. Once the water balance and sanitizer levels are established, add the contents of this Pool Opening Kit to get your pool off to the best start possible. First, add the Nava’s Stain & Scale and let the water circulate for two hours. Then add the Nava’s Quick Dissolving Shock following label directions. Circulate water for 2 hours. Add 8 oz. of the Nava’s 10% Algaecide per 10,000 gallons of pool water and let circulate another 2 hours. Then add 16 oz. of Nava’s Super Clarifier per 10,000 gallons of pool water and circulate. Your pool is now ready for the summer!

ROUTINE MAINTENANCE During the summer season, pool water can be affected by a variety of factors. Rain, wind, hot and humid weather, and heavy usage can affect chlorine and pH levels. You should understand the needs of your pool so you can keep things in check. Use your test kit or strips and test chlorine and pH at least weekly. Super chlorinate according to label directions. Use a maintenance dose of Nava’s 10% Algaecide to prevent algae from getting started. Empty skimmer baskets weekly and vacuum the pool when needed. A little time spent each Saturday maintaining your pool and correcting small problems before they become big ones ensures you will enjoy your pool throughout the season.
