Well, assuming the filter is properly sized and is well-maintained, the main factors are shorter cycle times between cleanings, lower water flow and higher pressure after cleaning than you experienced in the past and if the cartridges are torn or collapsed. To help with realizing a longer life span of your filter cartridges, we recommend you clean the cartridges per manufacturer standards, maintain proper water chemistry, clean the cartridges when the filter's pressure increases no more than 8 PSI and consider alternating 2 sets of cartridges.
